About

Broadly, I am interested in the ways in which music performs in context, indexing constructions of identity as it shapes them. Taking the grounds of American popular music and its particularly dense web of intertextual significations as case in point, I seek to examine the ways in which music resists hegemonic structures of domination in its navigation of various intersectional social constructions. As a jazz musician, my methodology is rooted in a deep social engagement with people in their humanly idiosyncratic capacities.
